AMAC Concede Waste Management Services in FCT to AEPB

Abuja Environmental Protection Board.

The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Abdullahi Candido, said the council henceforth is shedding the responsibility of providing waste management services as well as collection of waste service charge in FCT to Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB).

Addressing a joint press conference by AMAC and AEPB in Abuja, Candido said the decision to concede the responsibility came as a result of series of meetings aimed at resolving the lingering dispute which have lasted for over three years.

While noting that during the period of the crisis, millions of Naira have been lost on both sides, he urged the residents in the federal capital city to take note and act accordingly.

Speaking further, Candido stressed that as a member of the AEPB Governing Board, he accepts the decision for AMAC to withdraw from waste management activities within the federal capital city in the best interest of both parties and most especially that of residents.

“All cleaning services as well as collection of waste service charges within the FCT will now be the sole responsibility of AEPB.

“Henceforth, all payments for waste management services in the federal capital city are to be made solely to AEPB.

“Subsequently, all pending litigations between AEPB and AMAC and service users regarding issues on waste management within the federal capital city are hereby withdrawn.” He said

In his response, the Director of AEPB, Baba Lawan, said he is fully committed to using it’s long standing experience in waste management to bring its expertise to bear.

Lawan said that the agreement has brought an end to all the crisis regarding waste management and collection of waste service charge.

He pledged to partner with AMAC in every way possible to ensure that such crisis doesn’t arise in future.
