SWL Reiterates the Need for Trade Unions to Be Involved in Policy Formulations and implementations

The Socialist Workers and Youths League (SWL) has charged the Trade Unions to be involved in policy formulations and implementation at all levels of governance.

This was reiterated during the political education discussion class organised by SWL, Abuja Area Council on Wednesday 17th at the Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN), and on Thursday 18th April 2019 at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) National Headquarters labour house.

The MHWUN class which had several comrades in attendance, with the lead off on the topic: “why does national development plan did not benefit the poor” was taken by Comrade Povey Drew. Comrade Drew in his presentation reiterated that the national development plan is never designed to benefit the poor, rather to benefit the ‘bosses’. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); He said the ‘bosses’ have never imagined in their wildest dream to be this tremendously rich as they are today.

He said the way out of this is for the working class to rise up to the occasion by taking active participation in policy formulation and implementation.

At the NLC political education discussion class, the lead off was taken by comrade Badru who reiterated that the policy document itself were good but the system is deficient.

At the end of the discussion it was suggested that the trade unions should be involved in policy formulations and implementations. The political educations that saw many comrades, trade union activists and participants in attendance is organised occasionally by the Socialist Workers and Youths League to educate the trade unions on their rights and roles as trade union.
