The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has frowned at the video of  Nigerian ace singer Tekno’s single hit ‘Agege’, describing  it as ‘Outrageous and unacceptable’.

The position of the board was made known in a statement signed by its Executive Director and CEO, Alhaji Adedayo Thomas on Friday 9th August, 2019.

Tekno, who went off-stage almost a year, recently shoot a video showing four half-naked ladies dancing seductively with him in a display van in traffic around the Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge in Lagos.

The video clip, which had gone viral on social media, was said to be part of a scene from Tekno’s unreleased video, titled ‘Agege’ featuring musician, Zlatan Ibile. adsbygoogle || []).push({});

The video clip however generated a lot of reactions from his fans, industry watchers and relevant authorities, with many describing it as alien to African culture and morals and should not be allowed.

The NFVCB, in his reaction, stated that in line with its mandate and commitment to safeguarding the values and morals that define the Nigerian people, it did not and will never accept such video for Classification.

“We would like to serve notice that any video with such obscene contents will not be approved by the National film and Video Censors Board which has the statutory responsibility to classify and approve all films and video works to be distributed or exhibited in Nigeria.

“Also, we appeal to all film and video producers to be law abiding and submit their film and video contents to the board for the necessary classification  and approval before they are distributed or exhibited.

“In line with enabling laws, producers found culpable will be sanctioned accordingly,” he said.

The NFVCB, a Federal Government body that regulates the films and video industry  in Nigeria, is empowered by law to classify all films and videos, whether imported or produced locally.

It is also the duty of the Board to register all films and videos outlets across the country, among other functions.

According to the movie director in an interview with AljazirahNigeria newspapers, when his first movie, “Ejukimenebi” was taken to the Censors Board, they were surprised that they were Igala movies in the industry. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Eventually his movie became the first Igala movie to be known in the world.

Aside from this particular movie, he also has other good movies to his credit and also working on another great movie presently.

Amodu has worked on a couple of blockbuster movies in the past, like “Danger Of Curiosity” and “Gods Power” another movie that featured top actors including the late Bruno Iwuoha. He successfully produced these movies amongst other mind blowing pieces.

Before now, Igala movies have witnessed little or no recognition in the entertainment industry despite its enormous talent and creativity.

Meanwhile Amodu made emphasis on the fact that the movie industry has been affected not even by the pandemic but for about 5 to 6 years now, and that this effect took off when everything was digitized and the decoders came in to play, “I think the COVID-19 era is the best time for movies to sell because people are mostly indoors and watching movies but unfortunately, people here do not pay attention to the movies.

“However, with my strategy that I am bringing on board, that is my dream of becoming somebody who will champion the Igala world as regards having an Igala movie channel which I launched ten years ago and am still working on, I believe we should have one movie viewing centre where people can log onto”.
He further gave a word of advice to young up and coming artistes and people who intend to venture into the filmmaking business on the right way to go about it and some of the challenges they may face in the process, and their way to success.

“For upcoming artistes, I think they have a long way to go, either as an actor, a writer or a crew member.

They should possess perseverance because disappointment is the order of the day in the movie sector.”He further gave a word of advice to the up and coming actors and people who intend to venture into it that it has to do with his/her thinking.” I advise they should package themselves also.”
