The Nigerian Army has inducted and operationalized four newly acquired Mine Resistant Anti Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) in the North East theatre of operation to enhance fire power and protection of troops fighting Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) Terrorists. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Recall that the Nigerian Army in partnership with Proforce Nigeria Limited, an indigenous Armour Vehicle Manufacturing Company based in Ode-Remo in Ogun State had delivered the first ever Nigerian Army – Proforce locally manufactured MRAPs, four of which were inaugurated on August 1, 2019 by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Abuja.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai represented by the Chief of Training and Operations (Army) Maj Gen EO Udoh said the induction of the MRAPs would boost the operational capability and protection of the troops to decisively prosecute the ongoing counter insurgency operations.

He reminded the troops that equipment alone without strong will and determination by men cannot win wars, he therefore charged them to remain resolute in the discharge of their duties and strengthen their commitment to end the war against terrorism soon

While appreciating the efforts of the Special Forces in the fight against terrorism, especially the recapture of Baga by the Special Forces, he assured them of Nigerian Army’s continued support to specialised training as well as improved welfare to enhance the effectiveness of the Special Forces.

Earlier, the Commander Nigerian Army Special Forces Command, Maj. Gen. Mhounday Gadzama Ali, said the provision of the MRAPs and other equipment by the COAS will spur the Command in their dogged struggles to wipe out the remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP Terrorists soon.

A statement by Col Sagir Musa, Acting Director, Army Public Relations, said, “As part of the concern the leadership of the Army has for the troops, the representative of the COAS delivered the COAS goodwill message and had lunch with the troops after inspecting an ongoing renovation work in the camp.”

The Kaduna State Police Command on thursday, January 18, 2024 successfully apprehend Chinaza Phillip a notorious kidnapper operating in the Abuja area. Chinaza Phillip is alleged to have been involved in various high-profile kidnapping cases in the capital city, instilling fear among residents.

In a statement on Friday, the FCT Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, said the name of the suspected kidnapper is Chinaza Phillip.

She said Philip was arrested on Thursday, January 18, 2024, for his involvement in the recent kidnappings and killings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspect was promptly handed over to the FCT Police Command on Friday, January 19, 2024, and is currently in police custody.

The FCT Police Command expresses its commitment to thorough investigations to ensure that justice is served.

Details surrounding the arrest and subsequent charges will be communicated to the public in due course, as the police work diligently to provide a comprehensive account of the arrest and the charges leveled against Chinaza Phillip.

According to it spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi disclosing in a statement on Sunday 30th July, 2023 in Abuja, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), had said that it has thwarted attempt by the drug suspect, Igboma Ifeanyi to export quantities of Loud, a variant of Cannabis, Tramadol and Rohypnol.

Babafemi said that the illicit drugs weighing 7.8kg were concealed in 66 bottles of skin lightening lotion.

He further said that the suspect was arrested by the operatives while preparing to board an Ethiopian airline flight to Muscat, Oman at the Lagos airport.

Also, another suspect, Ekpenisi Wisdom was equally arrested while trying to board an Ethiopian Airline flight to Oman with 6.00kg skunk hidden in a bag of food stuff.

“A follow up operation led to the arrest of a staff of Toprano Hotel, Ikeja, Ibigbami Temitope Oluwatobi, who was fingered in the drug trafficking scheme.

“A consignment of 5.70kg codeine syrup going to the United Kingdom was also on Thursday July 27 seized from a 51-year-old widow, Adewunmi Atinuke by NDLEA operatives at the SAHCO export shed of the MMIA Ikeja, ” he said.

In the same vein, NDLEA operatives attached to the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company PLC (NACHO) export shed of the MMIA intercepted a cargo going to Nairobi, Kenya.

Babafemi said that a search of the consignment revealed that various quantities of MDMA (Ecstasy) popularly known as ‘Molly’ and Rohypnol were concealed in a bag consisting of foodstuff.

He said that the NDLEA operatives arrested an agent, Onydem Chinwe who presented it for export.

Equally, a consignment of 8.5kg skunk well concealed in a vehicle engine block going to Dubai, UAE was intercepted by the NDLEA operatives.

Babafemi said that the consignment was intercepted on Tuesday July 18 by the officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation, (DOGI) , attached to courier companies in Lagos.

He quoted the NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa as commending the officers and men of the MMIA command as well as those of DOGI for their resilience and commitment.

According to him, Marwa charged them and their counterparts in other Commands to remain undaunted by the various machinations of drug cartels and barons.

Scavenger Docked For Allegedly Stealing 12 Plastic Chairs

A 28-year-old scavenger (popularly known as Baba n Bola), Adamu Suleiman, on Wednesday 19th July 2023 appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 12 plastic chairs worth N180,000 . push({});
 
Suleiman, whose residential address was not provided, is charged with theft.
 
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo,  told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 13, at about 4.20 a.m. along Kano Road Kaduna.
 
Leo said that the defendant was caught by a vigilante group while stealing the chairs from a shop belonging to the complainant, Bello Maigari.
 
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
 
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
 
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel,  admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
 
Emmanuel said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Kaduna Government.
 
He adjourned the case until Aug. 17 for hearing.
