Why Court Sacks Ibaji APC Lawmaker Atule Egbunu
The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, ordered the sack of a lawmaker representing Ibaji Constituency of Kogi, Atule Egbunu, on the ground of unlawful nomination by his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC). adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a judgment, declared Daniel Enefola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the lawmaker for the constituency, having polled 4, 564 votes in the Dec. 5, 2020 State House of Assembly by-election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Egbunu was declared winner of the election having scored the highest votes of 8, 515 votes.
Joseph Enemona, one of the aspirants in the APC State House of Assembly primary, had instituted the suit against the party and four others.
Enemona, who was the plaintiff, had challenged the legality of the Sept. 3, 2020 primary election claimed to have been conducted by his party.
He averred that his party unlawfully excluded six other aspirants from the primary election and also did not allow delegates to vote at the poll.
The plaintiff further asserted that while the law stipulated that the primary election be conducted at the party secretariat in Onyedega, the APC officials allegedly conducted the purported primary election in a mall.
He further contended that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not given 21 days’ notice before the purported primary election and as required by Section 85 of Electoral Act, 2010.
The plaintiff further hinged his case on the ground that while the APC guidelines stipulated direct primary election, the APC officials manipulated the guidelines and purportedly used indirect system to pick the purported candidate and demanded that the purported nomination of Egbunu be voided and another primary election be conducted.
However, Justice Ekwo, after reviewing submissions by parties in the matter, agreed that the APC did not conduct a primary election known to law.
The judge held that while seven aspirants were to participate in the primary election, the party unlawfully maneuvered the system and made the participation for a single candidate.
He also held that the APC ran foul of the law by conducting the purported primary election outside the party secretariat as required by law.
Ekwo also faulted the purported substitution done between Matthew Oguche and Atule Egbunu on the ground that Oguche was not one of the legitimate aspirant before the election.
The judge, therefore, declared that the purported APC primary election as illegal, unlawful and unconstitutional and subsequently set it aside.
Justice Ekwo said that since the time for primary and nomination had lapsed, the candidate who came second in the Dec. 5, 2020 bye-election should be inaugurated as the lawmaker for Ibaji Constituency.

Kogi Central APC Stakeholders Kick Against Imposition of Unpopular Candidate Endorse Obaro

The Kogi Central All Progressive Congress APC, has endorsed Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro, kicking against imposition of any unpopular candidate.
In a statement widely circulated and received by Informavores Nigeria Newspaper, the statement read that the, “the collective body of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi Central Senatorial District—comprising youths, women leaders, and respected traditional rulers—has unanimously endorsed Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro as the preferred candidate for the Kogi Central Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Saturday, April 18, the group described Chief Obaro as a loyal party stalwart, a grassroots mobilizer, and a man of proven integrity who has remained consistent in his commitment to the growth and unity of the APC in Kogi Central and beyond.
According to the stakeholders, the endorsement of Chief Obaro is a reflection of the collective will of the people, borne out of extensive consultations across the five local government areas in the district. They emphasized that his candidacy represents fairness, inclusivity, and the genuine aspirations of party members who have long yearned for credible and people-oriented representation.
The group, however, raised serious concerns over what it described as subtle moves by certain interests to impose an unpopular candidate on the people, warning that such actions could have grave consequences for the party’s fortunes in the district and the state at large.
“We call on the national leadership of our great party and His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to intervene decisively to protect the democratic values of the APC in Kogi Central. The era of imposition must give way to the will of the people,” the statement read.
The stakeholders further cautioned that any attempt to sideline the popular choice of the people may trigger widespread disaffection, voter apathy, and protest votes that could undermine not only the senatorial election but also the overall electoral strength of the party in 2027.
“Chief Momoh Yusuf Obaro is our consensus choice. He embodies the trust, capacity, and connection required to deliver quality representation. Any attempt to impose an unpopular candidate will be resisted democratically by the people, even if it means casting protest votes,” the group declared.
Reaffirming their loyalty to the APC, the stakeholders urged party leaders at all levels to prioritize unity, fairness, and internal democracy as key pillars for sustaining electoral success.
They concluded by calling on all party members and supporters in Kogi Central to remain vigilant, united, and committed to the collective goal of ensuring credible representation and the continued progress of the party.

Ajia Congratulates Kwara APC Exco , Gov. AbdulRaham Others Over Successful State Congress

A prominent statesman, security expert , philanthropist, and Steward of the APC Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, Ph.D, has congratulated the leadership and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State following the successful and peaceful conduct of the party’s state congress.

Ajia, who holds the traditional titles of Dan Amanan Fune Emirate of Yobe State and Nwanne Ukwu Di Na Mba of Amaba-Ukwu Item in Abia State, particularly felicitated with the Chairman of APC in Kwara State, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, on his reaffirmation to lead the party for another term alongside other members of the State Executive Committee.
In a statement signed by his Director of Communications, Mallam Abdulrahman Aliagan, on Wednesday and made available to journalists in Abuja, Ajia described the peaceful and hitch-free congress as a reflection of unity, maturity, and strong internal democracy within the party.
He also congratulated the newly affirmed Local Government and Ward Excos . He extended same to all executives party leaders, elders, stakeholders, and the teeming members of the party across the 16 local government areas of the state for ensuring that the exercise was conducted successfully.
Ajia further commended the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for providing purposeful leadership and an enabling political atmosphere that contributed to the peaceful outcome of the congress.
According to him, the reaffirmation of the party leadership demonstrates the confidence party members have in the current executives and their commitment to sustaining unity, progress, and good governance in the state.
“The peaceful conduct of the APC State Congress in Kwara State speaks volumes about the political maturity of the party’s leadership and members. It is also a sign of the confidence reposed in the current executives,” Ajia stated.
He urged the newly reaffirmed leadership to remain focused, inclusive, and committed to strengthening the party ahead of future political engagements while continuing to support the developmental vision of the state government.
Ajia prayed for wisdom, unity, and divine guidance for the chairman, the secretary, the entire executive committee, and all party stakeholders throughout their renewed tenure.
He also expressed optimism that the APC in Kwara State would continue to grow stronger and remain a model of stability and progress in Nigeria’s democratic landscape.

Kwara Political Landscape Shifts as Ajia Joins APC

The political landscape in Ilorin witnessed a notable shift on Monday as businessman and political figure, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed Ajia, formally joined the All Progressives Congress, a development party leaders described as capable of reshaping grassroots mobilisation and strengthening the ruling party’s influence in the state.

Ajia, the Dan Amanan Fune Emirate of Yobe State and Nwanne Ukwu Di Na Mba of Amaba-Ukwu Item in Abia State, was received during a familiarisation visit to Mogaji Ngeri Ward where he was presented with the party’s broom symbol by the ward chairman, Alhaji Ibrahim Muritala Oforo, at the Gegele ward secretariat amid cheers from party faithful and supporters.
Among those present at the reception were the Executive Chairman of Ilorin West Local Government, Hon. Shehu Abdulrahman Babatunde Ladan; Senior Special Assistant (Political), Hon. Suleiman Aremu Saikai; women leader Hajia Bukola Galadima; youth leaders Abdulwahab Abaya and other stakeholders who welcomed him into the party fold.
Stakeholders at the gathering described his entry as a significant political gain, noting that his grassroots network and national connections would broaden the party’s reach and alter local political dynamics, especially following his exit from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party.
Speaking after his registration, Ajia expressed appreciation to party leaders and supporters for the warm reception, stating that his decision followed months of consultations, prayers and consensus among his supporters and community leaders.
He explained that the move was guided by patriotism and the desire to contribute to unity and stability at both state and national levels.
Drawing from his academic research and experience in the Nigeria Police Force, which he left in 2017, Ajia said insecurity cannot be solved through force alone, emphasising that cooperation between communities and security agencies, intelligence sharing and citizen participation remain essential to preventing violence.
He also expressed confidence in the security direction of the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, citing the leadership role of Christopher Musa while stressing that national strategies must be complemented by grassroots engagement.
Ajia assured party leaders that his entry into the party would go beyond symbolism, pledging to mobilise communities, promote civic participation and connect Kwara more closely to the centre of governance.
According to him, his involvement would mark the beginning of a stronger federal presence in the state through collaboration, development engagement and support for government programmes.
He further dismissed suggestions of personal political ambition, maintaining that his involvement in politics is driven by service and national interest.
He urged citizens to support ongoing reforms and prioritise unity, noting that policy changes often produce temporary hardship before long-term stability.
Party supporters expressed optimism that his background in security and community engagement would strengthen party structures and public trust in governance, while Ajia reaffirmed his commitment to work with government at all levels to promote peace, stability and improved living conditions for citizens.
