Gbajabiamila said the PIGB is on the front burner of the House, hence the members of the Green Chamber would commence the process of its passage soon.

He said although PIGB has been in the National Assembly for years, the current 9th Assembly is committed to putting it to rest.

He told a delegation of the Experts Advisory Panel of the Nigeria Natural Resource Charter who paid him a courtesy call on Wednesday in Abuja that the House needs the support and partnership of such group.

“I thank you for coming to the House of Representatives. Thank you for your collaboration. These are the things we look forward to. These are the things we need to do.

“The legislature needs to work with you. We need to work together. Oil and gas is an integral part of our economy. It remains the mainstay of our economy, and so we have to work together to protect it.

“It requires us to work with those who understand the nuances of that sector. For the oil and gas industry to develop, there has to be a symbiotic relationship. You have the knowledge and we have the capacity to make it happen.

“PIGB is on the front burner. We intend to start the process soon. We’re hoping that by June, we’ll be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Gbajabiamila added that the House would use the zeal and patriotism with which it passed the Deep Offshore Sharing Agreement Law to pass the PIGB.

“We have to put Nigeria first, and that’s what we did with that bill (Deep Offshore), and that’s what we’ll do with the PIGB. On the side of Nigeria and on the side of the National Assembly, that’s where we’re going to.”

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr Odein Ajumogobia, who is a former minister of state for petroleum resources, said the panel was at the Speaker’s office to seek his understanding and cooperation to pass some bills that could boost Nigeria’s economy, one of which is the PIGB.

He said the panel’s main concern is the implementation of the natural resource charter for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector to benefit the citizens.

He added that part of their concern is focusing on providing capacity to support the legislature in determining the best way in terms of legislation that would move the oil and gas sector forward..

The project, located offshore in OMLs 112 and 117 and developed by AMNI International in partnership with TotalEnergies, will produce about 300 million standard cubic feet of gas per day at peak.

According to Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer NNPCL, the output will supply critical feed gas to Nigeria LNG Limited in support of its Train 7 expansion, which will increase capacity at the Bonny Island plant from 22 million tons per annum to 30 Mtpa.

The FID was enabled by the Presidential Directives of 2024, which provided fiscal incentives for non-associated gas, streamlined contracting and lowered development costs.

Ima is the fourth major gas project to reach FID under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, after Iseni, Ubeta and HI.

Group Chief Executive Officer, NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari described it as “a decisive vote of confidence in Nigeria’s gas sector and in the bold reforms” that have created competitive terms and a predictable investment environment.

NNPC Ltd. also commends the collaboration between AMNI, TotalEnergies and the Nigerian financial sector, saying the model of indigenous operator, international partner and domestic capital is a template for future developments.

NNPC Ltd. reaffirms its commitment to work with government, regulators and industry partners to sustain investment momentum and deploy Nigeria’s gas resources for industrialisation, job creation and long-term prosperity.

The Former chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Abdulrasheed Bawa has justifies the removal of Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) by the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his new explosive book on Nigeria’s fuel subsidy fraud.

Bawa, in his groundbreaking new book titled ‘The Shadow of Loot & Losses: Uncovering Nigeria’s Petroleum Subsidy Fraud’., give a powerful exposé providing the most authoritative account yet of Nigeria’s multi-trillion-naira fuel subsidy scandal, exposing the inner workings of one of the country’s most pervasive financial crimes.

In the book published by CableBooks, an imprint of Cable Media & Publishing Ltd, Bawa Drawing from his firsthand experience as a key investigator on the EFCC’s special team that probed the 2012 subsidy fraud, reveals the staggering scale, complexity, and audacity of the schemes used to siphon public funds under the guise of fuel subsidy payments. His insider narrative chronicles how billions of naira were recovered and several culprits brought to justice, while also shedding light on how entrenched corruption allowed the fraud to flourish for years.

He details multiple fraudulent strategies as ghost importing and over-invoicing whereby Companies submitted claims for fuel that was never imported or inflated shipment volumes to receive excessive subsidy payouts.

Manipulation of bills of lading which is By altering shipping documents, fraudsters exploited international price fluctuations to claim higher subsidies.

Round-tripping and double claims whereby Single shipments were often used to obtain multiple subsidy payments.

He further revealed that there was also the problem of diversion and smuggling whereby subsidised fuel was frequently diverted to black markets or smuggled out of Nigeria for profit.

In a statement, Bawa said, “The Shadow of Loot & Losses is not just a chronicle of fraud, it is a call to action — a demand for transparency, accountability, and reform in Nigeria’s public finance management, especially in the oil sector.”

These practices, Bawa explains, were enabled by forged documents, weak regulatory oversight, and systemic collusion between corrupt government officials and private sector actors.

Having served as EFCC chairman from 2021 to 2023, Bawa brings rare credibility and insight into the institutional challenges and political dynamics that have shaped the anti-corruption fight in Nigeria. His book is both a revelation and a reckoning — offering evidence-based analysis and personal reflections on one of the most controversial chapters in Nigeria’s recent history.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had announced removal of fuel subsidy during his inauguration speech citing that the economy can no longer sustain it.
