Community policing ‘ll help us get out of insecurity, security expert, Ajia reiterates

A security expert and Board member, Ashraaf Islamic Foundation, Dr. Ibrahim Muhammad Ajia says embracing the modern community policing ‘ll help us get out of insecurity in Nigeria.
Ajia while condemning the idea of negotiating with criminals, reiterates the importance of community policing to fighting crimes while talking to journalists during the 9th Annual Ramadan Lecture and Prayer for the nation, presented by Ashraaf Islamic Foundation in Abuja, Nigeria.
He said, “The fact remains that you cannot be negotiating with kidnappers, you cannot be negotiating with insurgents. You must be frank about it. But also, from my background as a security expert, I will say this thing did not just start today, we must go back to the background and people have been also emphasizing, we must strengthen the modern community policing. It is one of the things that can help us get out of this senseless insecurity that we found ourselves.”
Ajia further charges all the stakeholders and actors involved in the security apparatus of the nation to wake up to their responsibilities and imbibe the outcomes and lessons from the Ramadan Lecture.
“I will encourage our government to take away from these lectures and put some of the things that has be discussed by some of our scholars into actions.”, he said.
“I will also encourage our religious leaders and traditional rulers that the balls of this insecurity lie in our court.it is no more for us to say it’s government responsibility.”, he further revealed.
Furthering that, “we all have a role to play, in fact the security issue today must start from the family. How you bring up the children determines what they become in the society. We are also encouraging all our community leaders that they must be vigilant.”
Meanwhile, he commends the organizer of the Annual Ramadan Lecture event while emphasizing its importance to the modern-day challenges bedeviling us as a nation.
“I must say to you that this Ramadan lecture is a very unique one, the topic borders about typical issue that is confronting our nation.”
“The guest lecturers and all the speakers are looking at the perspective on how to assist the country in tackling the problems of insurgence, kidnapping and all sort of senseless killing that is going on across Nigeria. And from here today, we are going to deduce that if you go back to faith, if you go back to Islamic perspective on dealing with high level of crime, I can tell you the society will be free of such heinous crimes.”
“So it is a pleasure to be here, discussions and lectures are apt and timing, I hope that all the messages and lectures get to government for necessary and proper actions.”, he continued.
