Katsina state police command showcase some of their achievements in it’s fight against kidnapping, banditry, trafficking and other related criminal offences Tuesday.
The state commissioner of police CP Sanusi Buba while briefing news men at the police headquarters on the recent milestone attained by the Command disclosed that an arrest of a 35 year old notorious bandits Lawan Zayyana of Muduru village in Mani LGA of Katsina state was made, one other bandit, arms and ammunition supplier to bandits in the forest.
“In the course of investigation the suspect was trailed and arrested alongside his cohorts, Haruna Yusuf, 47yrs, Haruna Adamu, 35yrs and Auwal Abubakar, 28yrs both of Maduru village, Mani LGA of Katsina state. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); ”, the CP said.
He further revealed that Haruna Yusuf confessed to be the gang leader as he usually received the supply of arms and ammunition from Niger Republic and hands over to Lawan Zayyana, Haruna Adamu and Auwal Abubakar who will in turn take the supply to bandits in the forest.
Buba stressed that the principal suspect have confessed to have sold over ten thousand arms and ammunition to bandits in the forest.
CP Buba unveiled that while further interrogation, Haruna Adamu and Auwal Abubakar confessed to have severally trafficked these arms and ammunition to bandits at Gurbi and Dan-Magaji areas in Zamfara state.
Items recovered according to the police are 2 General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), 1 LAR rifle, 179 Anti-Aircraft (AA) ammunition, the sum of 3,413,500 West African – CFA Franc were recovered in their possession.
The suspected bandits arrested includes two biological sons of the notorious arm dealer, Haruna Yusuf, who were arrested at his residence.
A total of 14 suspected bandits, collaborators, arm and ammunition. Suppliers that are residents of Katsina state and Maradi Niger Republic were arrested in connection with banditry and arms and ammunition supply.
CP Buba further revealed that Seven motorcycles comprising 5 Kasea and 2 Royal brands of motorcycles were recovered in their possession.
Investigation is ongoing.
