ICDA Honours Okpanachi, 23 Others With Awards
The Founder of Waves of Success Foundation, a non Governmental Organization, Yusuf Ocholi Okpanachi was among the 24 prominent Igala sons and daughters who were conferred with Distinguished Merit Awards by the Igala Cultural and Development Association (ICDA) for their outstanding contributions towards the upliftment of the Igala Kingdom. js">
The ceremony which took place at the “Igala Unity House, Anyigba” over the weekend, was organized by the association to give honour to whom it is due.
The president of the association, Alhaji Amodu Abubakar Sadiq in his welcome address, said that Yusuf Okpanachi, a notable Philanthropist in Igala Zone was fished out for the Award as a result of his support in providing rural communities across the Igala Kingdom with roads, potable water, electricity, health facilities and empowerment of women and youth.
Sadiq described Yusuf Okpanachi as a worthy son of the Igala Kingdom who had made his impact in touching positively on the lives of the downtrodden.
The ICDA president also disclosed that the “Igala Merit Award 2020” was spread into those who contributed immensely to the development of their immediate communities, those who facilitated employment for Igala indigenes in the labour market as well as those who have excelled in both Media, Legal, and other professions.
He said that ICDA also gave Post Humours Awards to three deceased prominent Igalas who made their mark towards the advancement of their father land during their life time.
The Kogi state Deputy Governor while speaking at the event, described ICDA as the only platform that could be effectively used to achieve the needed peace, unity and harmonious relationship in Igala Land.
“The greater of Igala Kingdom should be our major priority. We should be concerned in assisting in the provision of infrastructural development for our people as governments worldwide cannot do it alone
” God should prosper those wishing Igala people well and grant those after the destruction of the land the grace to change and if don’t change should put them to shame” the Deputy Governor prayed.
He described the leadership of ICDA as people of high integrity who had championed the drive to bring development to Igala land rather than fighting for their personal interest.
“Let us come down home and join hands with ICDA in developing our immediate communities. ICDA as an umbrella body belongs to the entire people of Igala land” Edward Onoja advised.
The Founder Waves of Success Foundation, Yusuf Ocholi Okpanachi in his remark, thanked ICDA for its recognition with assurance that the gesture will spur him to do more for his people.
Responding on behalf of other recipients, the member representing Ankpa1 Constituency at the Kogi state House of Assembly, Hon Abdullahi Halims also commended ICDA for its initiative to honour deserving Igala sons and daughters urging the association to sustain its spirit of encouragement that will spur meaningful citizens to come to the aid of the less privileged in the society.
He particularly praised the Kogi state deputy governor, Edward Onoja for facilitating the building of Igala Unity House at Anyigba where to showcase the activities and the culture of the Igala people.
The event attracted personalities within and outside the Igala zone.

Troops Rescue 31 In Kogi as Kidnappers Abduct 40 CVR Registrants

The ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise has recorded major casualties as 40 CVR Registrants heading home in a bus after their registration exercise were abducted at gunpoint.

The incident happened along Dekina-Ajiyolo-Anyigba road at about 6pm on Friday, 7th of November 2025.
The victims were mostly residents of Abocho community and environs who chattered a bus to convey them to Dekina the LGA headquarters to enable them participate in the ongoing Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise.
Eye witness said that on their way back to Abocho after the successful exercise, they were ambushed and forcefully abducted by kidnappers numbering over 20 and fully armed.
The news of the mass abduction sent panic waves to the communities there by generating tension and anxieties.
Relief however, came later on as troops of 12 Brigade Lokoja in collaboration with the local security network gave a hot chase to the criminals. This forced the kidnappers to abandoned some of the victims and escaped with few others.
Eye witness also said, “The kidnappers played a fast one on us, they released about 31 of their victims, and we thought that was all and we relaxed not knowing that they simply used those ones for us to calm down. But before we realized their tricks, they had gone far with about 10 victims”
“When the profile of the victims were taken, it was realized that there are about 10 members of the community still missing including the driver of the bus”
It was learnt that the bus was recovered and taken to Abocho police station while security agencies continued their search for the remaining 10 victims in custody of the kidnappers.
The security agencies has vowed to track the kidnappers until the remaining ten captives are freed.
Efforts to confirm the incident by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP, William Ovye Aya failed as he could not respond to calls and text messages.

Kogi CP Lauds Ododo’s Support To Police, Other Security Agencies

The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi has commended Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for his continued support to the Police and other security agencies in the State.

The CP gave the commendation during his maiden visit to the Governor at the Government House, Lokoja over the weekend
Kankarofi stated that his meeting with the Governor focused on strengthening collaboration between the State Government and the Police Command to ensure peace, security, and community development.
He briefed the Governor on:
– Recent security initiatives
– Crime prevention strategies
– Upcoming community policing programs
He further highlighted areas of mutual interest such as intelligence sharing, synergy among security agencies, and joint efforts to curb violent crime in the State.
Responding Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to backing law enforcement agencies and pledged full support for the implementation of security policies aimed at maintaining law and order in the state.
Both leaders expressed optimism that the partnership would foster a safer, more prosperous environment for the citizens of Kogi State.
