There was pandemonium in Bida and Badeggi in Katcha Local government area of Niger state as a passenger that defiled the inter- state night travel ban died in a commercial bus.
An eye witness account disclosed that, the commercial bus with registration number JJJ 349 XN was travelling from Lagos to a northern state through the Bida- Badeggi-Lambata federal high way when the vehicle broke down at Badeggi.
DAIY ASSET gathered that a whistle blower, Mr. George Udom alerted the Niger state taskforce on COVID -19 of the presence of the bus at Badeggi at the early hours of Thursday morning.
The Bida zonal unit of the taskforce stormed the venue and got more than they bargained for when they discovered that one of the passengers suspected to be a COVID -19 patient had died. adsbygoogle || []).push({});
According to the source, the taskforce contacted the chairman of the state COVID -19 taskforce and Secretary to Niger state government, Alhaji Ahmed Matane, who briefed Governor Abubakar Sani Bello on the development.
Government House Minna sources explained that the Chairman of Katcha local government council was immediately directed to call mechanics and ensure that the broken down vehicle was fixed and returned to where it was coming from with the corpse of the passenger.
Director General of ICT and public enlightenment in the Governor’s office, Alhaji Abdulbergki, who also confirmed this in his confirmed official Twitter handle said he has been on phone with the chairman of Katcha to carry out the Governor’s directive.
“To avoid infection, the chairman has been directed to call mechanics, fix the fault in the vehicle and escort the bus out of Niger state with security personnel back to where they are coming from and hand over to the authorities there.”
“All those to be involved must wear face mask, hand gloves, eyeglasses before touching the vehicle for repairs, “he stated.
Niger state has been strictly enforcing the ban on intra and inter – state night travels as the number of coronavirus cases have increased in the last two weeks.
