The increased in crime and criminality in Nigeria calls for desperate interrogation of some of the extant laws and policies in our society as some of these rules and regulations, at the end of the day cause the government and the people enormously. push({}); adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Dismissing Army Officer, Navy Officer, Police Officer or other military or paramilitary personnel is like letting loose a wounded lion. It is a well-known fact that a jobless and well trained military or paramilitary personnel with tons of experience and responsibilities is a security threat to any society.

It has been established that military personnels have been behind some of the crimes and criminalities we have witnessed before now. Armed robbery, car snatching, kidnapping, and even the humongous boko haram security problem at hand all have military or ex-military personnel membership in their gang. And successes of most of their terrific expedition have never been denied.

A member of the Presidential Committee on the North East Initiative (PCNI), Dr. Sidi Ali Mohammed, recently disclosed that Boko Haram fighters receive daily payments of $3,000 daily for their efforts in elongating the insurgency that has been raging in the North-East since 2014, while the Nigerian military gets N1, 000 per day for being in the North East, at the war front, as an allowance.

It is a common sense that unscrupulous dismissed soldier would look in the direction of Boko haram in terms of job for sustenance. Do you expect someone that has been trained to handle guns and explosives to now begin to learn shoe-making or carpentry after dismissal? I doubt if your answer is yes!

It was even learnt that ex-military men help train boko haram members and are even active members of this world renowned terrorist organization.

There is need to look deep into dismissals in our military. If a trained military man’s crime does not attract the capital punishment of death, i think he should not be dismissed. by dismissing and removing source of income for a man is dangerous, talk more of a man that has been trained on several weapons of destruction.

If a soldier deserves to die as a punishment for an offense, make it quick! But if not, there are other forms of punishment without necessarily dismissing and removing source of income for an erring military man. Such punishment can be in form of demotion, redeployment, garrisoning for a time, etc. Other punishments can be designed, all these in a bid to reducing ejecting angered military men into the society.

Occupational soldiers are even held high in the eye of God and so it would be good to respect and give hope to somebody (no matter how low in rank) that has laid down his/her life to protect others.
