The outreach, held at the NUJ State Secretariat in Lokoja on Tuesday, was organised in partnership with the Centre for Integrated Health Programme (CIHP).
The exercise offered members medical screening for malaria, HIV, prostate and other health related concerns, enabling them to assess their health status and take appropriate steps towards maintaining their well-being.
Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the programme, the union’s Secretary, Dr. Samuel Atuluku, described the initiative as crucial to the health of journalists, noting that regular medical checks would help them make informed decisions about their health.
He said improved health would enhance journalists’ vitality, efficiency and productivity, thereby strengthening their capacity to serve society more effectively.
Atuluku commended the Centre for Integrated Health Programme for partnering with the union to organise the outreach, describing the collaboration as a valuable contribution to the welfare of journalists in the state.
Grace Kato, a member of the union also spoke with journalists, saying that the exercise was designed to encourage journalists to know their health status and seek timely medical attention, where necessary.
She explained that participants whose results indicated no immediate health concerns would be better positioned to take preventive measures and sustain their health status and be enthused to attend for similar programme in future, while those requiring further attention could seek appropriate medical care.
Kato urged NUJ members to take advantage of the initiative, stressing the importance of regular health checks and early intervention in preventing or managing health conditions.
