Imam Aliagan Set to Present Islamic Books For Schools In Lagos

The Chief Imam of Ibrahim Hassan Islamic Foundation and Chief missioner IKHWATUL- ISLAM Society of Nigeria, Sheik Muhammad Yaqub Aliagan is set to present a new set of Islamic Books for both primary and secondary schools to Academic experts, education authorities and the general public at University of Lagos, Mosque Hall come Thursday, 25th August, 2022 by 11am prompt.

The books is billed to be presented under the Chairmanship of Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti, Pro-Chancellor, Summit University, Offa, Kwara State and Alhaja Muinat Alake Shopeyin, Iya Suna of Lagos state, the National Missioner of Ansarudeen Society of Nigeria, Sheikh (Dr) Ahmad Abdur-Rahman is the Guest Speaker at the occasion while Prof. Musa Ismail and Dr Khadijat Olaniyan Shobowale are to review the Books.

Eminent Guest of Honours are the Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr Kadiri Obafemi Hamsat, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, Minister of state, Powers and Steel, Sayyid Umar Akanoglu, the Director of NUSRET, South West Nigeria, Honourable Rasak Olusola Ajala and Honourable Otunba Adebayo Olasoju.

Other expected eminent Guests at the occasion are Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo, fsc, the President of Muslim Ummah South West Nigeria ( MUSWEN ), Engr Waheed Olalere,, President IKHWATUL- ISLAM Society of Nigeria, Sheikh Sulaiman Abou Nolla, the Chief Imam of Lagos state, Sheikh Sulaiman Faruq, Grand Mufti of Ilorin , Alh. Murthada Balogun, a prominent NACOMYO Lagos leader and Hon. Dr Abdul-Lateef Abdul-Akeem.

Aliagan who has being an erudite Islamic teacher, consumate academics, prolific writer and firm preacher for more than three decades brought his over two decades of experience to bear in the content of the books.

Aliagan, one of the pioneer Murshid of NACOMYO Lagos state has worked with SOS children’s Village, Isolo Lagos before moving to join Turkish International College in Lagos, he is presently, a Senior Education Officer at NUSRET, an International Educational and Cultural Company based in Lagos.

Aliagan is a product of Al-Mahadu Al-Diniy, Al-Azhariy (Al-Adaby) Arabic Institute , Ilorin, he obtained B.A Hons in Arabic from Bayero University, Kano and M.Ed. Curriculum Studies from University of Lagos.

Without any doubt, Aliagan wealth of experience and knowledge is demonstrated in the carefully selected contents he had made available for Muslim children in these book series with relevant, colourful illustrations.

In his chat with selected newsmen, Aliagan noted that it has being his choice to be a teacher and mentor to children particularly at the early stage in order to build moral and religious education in children as future leaders. This goal, he said, he has been doing for over a long period of time.

He added that the same dream had informed his decision to write these books to the benefit of Muslim Ummah, most especially pupils and students at early levels of education.

Aliagan said, the books are carefully written in line with current Arabic and Islamic Studies Curriculum for primary and secondary schools in Nigeria.

Governance Assessment: NUT Lauds Governor AbdulRazaq Revamping Of Educational Sector in Kwara

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has showered Encomiums on the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman for revamping the educational sector in the State that has over the years been in deplorable State before he came into the saddle over three years ago.

The Kwara State NUT Secretary and Senior Assistant General Secretary, Moni Mike Modesty Itua, said the Governor has been a blessing to the State in bringing back the past glory of the State in the educational sector.

Itua added that the Governor AbdulRazaq administration has been supportive and formed a cordial relationship with the NUT, but stated that it isn’t yet uhuru, urging the Governor to make steps in liquidating the 342 Percent Arrears owed the Kwara State teachers.

He made this remarks during the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists, NGIJ, Governance Assessment Tour to the State.

Stressing further, Itua said that from 2017 to 2021, there has been limited promotions for Teachers, with no financial backups, which isn’t palatable.

“It should be noted that all this aforementioned is the rights of the teachers and not a privilege. The Teachers must be catered for, because they have over the years showed commitment, zeal and passion for the job. There is need for this government to step up its game in this regard.

“The Governor is trying his best as he is not owing any teacher their salaries, and he is trying all possible means to change the narratives. There have been consequential adjustment done by this government since I came into the saddle in 2021, there is massive commitment by this government to improve and revamp the educational sector in the State.

He however urged Kwara State Government to implement new policy introduce by President Muhammadu Buhari to increase Teacher’s years in service to 40 and 65 years retirement age.

Kwara NUT Chairman also tasked Governor Abdulrazaq on payment of outstanding salary arrears inherited from previous administration.

“We know that current administration is not owing teachers but they inherited over 400 percent salary arrears from last administration. Government is continum! Although, they have paid about 100 percent in the last three years. I think it’s time for Governor Abdulrazaq led administration to clear outstanding salary arrears.”

Over 1.57m Candidates Write WASSCE In 19,000 Centers

Over 1.57 million candidates are sitting for the 2021 West African Senior School Certificate Examinations WASSCE in 19,000 centers across the country.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, Arc. Sonny Echono disclosed this while monitoring the conduct of the WASSCE in Federal Government Girls College, Bwari and Government Girls Secondary School, Dutse, both in the Federal Capital Territory,(FCT) Abuja.

Echono who expressed satisfaction over  the conduct of the examination, revealed that apart from the disruptions witnessed in the South-east, where some candidates were stopped by some hoodlums from writing the exam, the conduct of the 2021 WASSCE remains peaceful.

“We are very pleased that all around the country, exams are going on peacefully. We have a total of over 19,000 exams centres across the country over 1.57miillion candidates registered for their exams and beside the disruptions we had on Sept 13th in the southeast where some of our candidates were stopped from doing the exams, it is a peaceful and stressful examination,” he said.

Echono however assured that candidates who missed the exam in the South East due to the disruptions, will be given another opportunity to write the examination.

He added  that the ministry did not encounter challenges in preparing students for the examinations aside from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Echino further said that although some schools were closed in states due to the COVID-19 pandemic, alternative arrangements were made especially for exit classes to take the examination.

While speaking on the issue of  examination malpractice, the permanent secretary stated that cases of examination malpractices would be collated at the end of the examination adding that the culprits will be brought to book.

He said that the ministry was collaborating with relevant examination bodies and Non-Government Organisations to fish out candidates involved in examination malpractices.

“This is because we have a lot of miscreants who are perpetrating and deceiving people. We are going to undertake a general overhaul for all those offering so-called services to candidates.

“We didn’t see much of malpractices in internal examinations like this because these are students who are already in school,” he said.

Girl-Child: APWEN Set To Conduct Quiz Competition In Kogi

The chairperson of the Association of Women Engineers of Nigeria Kogi State Chapter Engr Mrs Joan Oguche has disclosed that the Association is set to conduct inter School Competition in Kogi State.

Engr Joan Made this revelation in Lokoja while addressing Press Men noting that the essence of this Science Quiz competition targetted Girl-Child is to encourage their participation in Science subjects which will in turn boost their confidence to study Engineering Courses at the Tertiary level.

“what we are pursuing is to ensure we encourage Girl-child to pick up Science Subjects at the Secondary School Level with the intention of choosing Engineering as a career”.

Oguche further said that the fear of studying Science Subjects has reduced the number of women in Engineering Profession in Nigeria relating that She will use her tenure as the current Chairperson of APWEN in Kogi State to stage Campaigns that will increase the interest of a girl-child in Engineering Profession in Nigeria.

“We have mapped out strategies such as going to schools to give Career talks to Girl-child, we have also created platforms with parents in various Schools in Kogi State where we can encourage them to convince their children and wards to develop interest in Science Subjects that could enable them go for Engineering Courses at the Higher Institution of Learning”

She finally appealed to all the parents and teachers of Schools like Crowder Memorial College, Bishop Delis Secondary School, Government Science Seondary Shcool, Muslims Commuity Secondary School, Government Day Secondary School, Government Secondary School Serikin Numa and other public schools within Lokoja Metropolis to avail their girls for the Science Quiz competetion slated to hold in Lokoja at the NIWA Coference Hall on Monday 16th of August, 2021 adding that educational materials Such as Laptos, Science Books, Mathsets, Calculators and other science learning materials shall be distributed to students that perform well.
