Police Train NFVCB Officers to Combat Unclassified, Pirated Films
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 14 of the trained officers were decorated, after completion of the course with different ranks by CP Ajani Olasupo, Commandant of the Police College Ikeja (PCI) Lagos State.
SPY Police are engaged for specific security functions within a restricted jurisdiction or operational space.
The Nigeria Police Act provides guidelines for their establishment and grants them the powers, privileges and immunities enjoy by police officers.
However, such powers are limited to areas specific to their jobs or professions.
Mr Adedayo Thomas, Executive Director of NFVCB said the special training and decoration were follow-ups to an earlier training for 150 officers on Supernumerary Policing on Illicit Trade, Security and Enforcement Duties.
“As part of the NFVCB zero-tolerance stance against all uncensored and unclassified films in the Nigerian market, whether foreign or local, we are working closely with the Nigeria police.
“These 14 NFVCB officers that are being decorated with ranks today are among 150 of our officers that were recently trained by the Nigeria police force.
“Fifty were trained here at the Police College Ikeja, and 50 trained at Police College Kaduna and Police Detective College Enugu respectively.
“The board is set to come out stronger to ensure total sanity of the film industry to ensure right owners of films and video works enjoy the fruit of their hard labour.
“This is in line with the ‘New Level’ mantra of the President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government, which should also be reflected in our film industry,” he said.
Thomas, who was decorated as Superintendent of Police (SP) Supernumerary after the special training, lauded the police for its crucial role over the years in supporting operations of the NFVCB.
He said that the exponential growth of the Nigerian motion picture industry has also made enforcement and compliance operations of the board more tasking, making the imperative.
He therefore pledged loyalty and commitment of the decorated officers to professionalism and operations within the ambit of the law.
“The Nigeria police has been part of the reason why the NFVCB is standing tall in regulating our film industry, and we are quite appreciative of this and have not taken it for granted.
“Our enforcement raids across the country, including tough places like Alaba International Market, have always been made successful with the Police.
“We need to regulate what goes out for public consumption, as we have been fighting against distribution of films and video works not licensed and classified for distribution in Nigeria.
“This renewed partnership with the police, especially this training will boost our enforcement operations across the country,” he said.
CP Olasupo, Commandant of the College, congratulated the trained and decorated officers of the NFVCB.
He however urged them to be good ambassadors of their organisation, the police and Nigeria in the discharge of their lawful duties.
“I congratulate and urge you to continue with the spirit of responsibility to your organisation, the government and society,” he said.
The Director of Operations of the NFVCB, Mrs Bola Attah, expressed appreciation to the management of the board and the Nigeria police on behalf of the trained officers.
She said that the training had positioned officers of the board for better fight against uncensored films and video works and their dealers.
Attah said that the board had recently started a nationwide raid against unclassified and pirated films, which would be boosted by the experienced garnered from the training.
“With this training we are set to tell all pirates that it is no longer business as usual because the right thing must be done for our film industry to contribute more to our economy,” she said.
NAN reports that the NFVCB is a Federal Government body that regulated films and videos, imported or produced locally.
It is also the duty of the board to register all films and videos outlets across the country, among other functions.

AFRO Awards 2025: Film Director Lauds Philanthropists, Organizations on Humanitarian Services

A US based Film Director, Taiwo Oduala, has commended the unprecedented achievements and humanitarian services being rendered to the less privileged by philanthropists and corporate organisations.

Oduala gave the commendation while speaking with newsmen on Monday in Lokoja.
The Nigerian born film director, who hosts the Afro Awards in Los Angeles, America, said life is all about service to God and humanity, no matter how low or highly placed in the society.
He said that love for mankind that some individuals and organizations are displaying across the globe gave birth to the Afro Awards four years ago.
The founder and executive producer of the Afro Awards, said the awards were solely aimed to recognize and honor individuals, who have demonstrated exceptional humanitarian excellence in various fields.
“The first event was held on Nov. 6, 2022, at Regal La Live, 1000 W Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, California and hopefully by Oct. 24, we shall be holding the 4th edition of the award.
“The Afro Awards has hosted and honored over 5,000 individuals since its inception, recognizing their contributions to humanitarianism and philanthropy in American and African communities alike, ” he said.

Briefing Journalists at the NUJ Press Centre in Lokoja on Tuesday, June 17th, 2025; Hon. Juwon Olorunipa disclosed that activities lined up for the event will commence on Thursday 19th June 2025 with the Album Listening of his latest release, Son of Margaret at Golden Royale Hotel Lokoja.
According to him, the first Kogi Entertainment Summit will hold the following day at AKK Hotels Lokoja with talks on how to boost music, fashion, event planning and movie industries in the State.
He also told newsmen that Jumabee Inspires Concert will be held on Saturday 21st June 2025 at the Children Amusement park, Lokoja by 7pm with over forty home based Superstars performing live and other international singers.
He further stated that Jumabee Inspires Concert is now attracting people from all walks of life and changing the narrative about the Confluence State, saying the State remains the best in the North Central.
Hon. Jumabee, who is the Special Adviser on Art and Culture to the Kogi State Governor, said that the Entertainment Summit is aimed at raising the consciousness of the people on the need to embrace and invest in Entertainment
The Governor’s Aide added that the Concert which started six years ago was carried out to mark his birthday as a way of adding value to the State Entertainment Industry.
He revealed that many students across the three Senatorial Districts of the state will be offered scholarship at the Concert while 150 youths will be trained on several skills acquisition programmes.
He had earlier paid a Courtesy visit to the Chairman of the Kogi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Alhaji Seidu Ademu who endorsed the Concert and commended him for projecting Kogi State to the world.

Kogi Govt Reiterates Dedication To Promotion of Entertainment Industry

The Kogi State Government has restated its determination to promote the entertainment industry for the stability and advancement of the people of the state.
Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo made the statement in a message when the Igala Performing Gospel Musicians Association (IPGMA) visited him today Wednesday October 30th, 2024 in his office in Lokoja.

Governor Ododo represented by the Deputy Comrade Joel Salifu said music is lively, creative and philosophical noting that God loves praises.
He called on the artists to remain inspirational in their music production for the edification of people’s souls, and to influence the power of God on the state.
He expressed that he is prepared to serve the people selflessly, and call for prayers and more support of the group for the progress of the state.
He appealed to the people of the three district of the state to see themselves as one people, noting that his burden is to improve the living conditions of the general populace.
Governor Ododo revealed that the state government resolved to pay hundred percent salaries to all category of workers in the state as well as the implementation of 72,500 Naira minimum wage in other to improve their welfare and contribute maximally to the development of the State.
He commended the Patron of the group, Reverend Elijah Abalaka for his ingenuity in Christian music production noting that his efforts through music has transform and revived souls across the world, describing him as a mentor to many Igala rising musicians in the country.
On the appeal of the group, the Governor promised to look into their request, enjoining them to remain united, supportive and prayerful to reap more gains of the current administration.
Earlier in his remark, the President of the Association, Evangelist Joseph Jacob congratulated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu on their election and victory at the supreme court, describing the Governor as a dedicated servant Leader.
According to him, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu are men of high pedigree, stressing that their ascension to the throne is a divine call to serve the people.
Also speaking, Reverend Elijah Abalaka noted that the journey of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and his Deputy, Comrade Joel Salifu to greatness had just begun and appealed to the government to assist the association in providing state-of-the-art instrument for the propagation of the Gospel.
High point of the visit is the presentation of songs led by the Deputy Governor Comrade Joel Salifu, while Reverend Elijah Abalaka offered prayers for the success of the present administration.
