2019 Budget: FHA Committed to Affordable Mass Housing

The Managing Director of the Authority Professor Mohammed AL- Amin, while reacting to questions from journalists regarding the
NBS =N= 17 million housing deficit report, during appearance before the Honorable Committee on housing on Tuesday , said that with the current program, if the proposal of =N=20 billion is approved it will help to reduce that reports for National Bureau of Statistics, NBS.
Professor Mohammed Al-Amin, reiterated that =N=20 billion proposal is for the take-off of the nationwide Mass Housing Program.
He also stated that, having experiment with the pilot project at Abuja; it’s clear that it is possible to provide Nigerians with affordable housing all over the nation.
He said, “In 2019 budget proposal the authority projected revenue target of
=N= 5.04 billion with sales (deposit for housing) account for 58% of the budget, while projected recurrent and capital expenditures are
=N= 2.48 billion and 2.52 billion respectively”.
“The country is categorized into three sections, that is, high, medium and low income earners, therefore any further development should put this factors into consideration. “
Professor Mohammed Al-Amin also stressed that =N= 4 billion is committed to Abuja Mass Housing Pilot Project, he assured of its completion before the second quarter of 2019.
While explaining FHA 2018 budget performance revealed that, in the past the FHA run at a deficit, but in the last year there was a surplus remitted to government treasury .

FGN To Drag Salini Before EFCC As It Terminates Minna-Suleja Road Contract

The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) it would drag the contractor, Salini Nigeria Ltd, that is handling the Suleja-Minna road, before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over prolonged neglect of the contract.

This is stated over the weekend as it announced revocation of the road contract.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi while inspecting the road in the company of Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi; and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Segun Showunmi, among others, directed the immediate commencement of emergency reconstruction on critical sections of the road.
According to the minister, efforts to get the original contractors, Salini Nigeria Ltd to repair the severely damaged road over the past 18 months were unsuccessful.
He said: “I have gone through this road twice and I agreed that the road is in a very terrible situation and between here and Minna is over seven hours. It shouldn’t be.
“That is wickedness because our people cannot continue to suffer like this. Today, Salini is still owing us, and I have directed my ministry to scoop out the section of the road they owe and do it.
“The project has been irrevocably terminated, and Nigerians will see why we terminated it. If they (Salini) do not do what we have directed them to do, what they are owing us under our supervision, we are all going to the EFCC to take it over”.
The Minister continued: “We have been on this for a year and a half, urging the contractors to return to the site. Section 1 of the road, starting from the Abuja-Kano highway, is in a terrible state with tankers and trucks frequently breaking down, leading to fatal accidents.
“After inspecting the contractor’s capacity and observing the absence of necessary equipment, the Ministry decided to terminate the contract,” he said.
He added that the two worst-hit sections have now been declared emergency projects and will be handled under emergency procurement procedures.
“We’re documenting the current condition of the road for public accountability. Once work is completed, people tend to forget how bad it was. The Information Department must keep a visual record to justify our emergency action,” he said

Gov Ododo Flags Off 19.55km Obajana-Uro-Aku Rural Road Project

Kogi state Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo flags off construction of the 19.55km Obajana-Uro-Aku rural farm road, marking a significant milestone in Kogi State’s quest for enhanced rural infrastructure and agricultural growth.

According to him, the construction of the road would alleviate the suffering of the farmers in Kogi state.
In his words, “It is indeed with all sense of fulfillment that I stand here today to officially Flag Off the construction of about 19.55 Obajana —Uro—Aku road under Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing project called RAAMP,” he said.
He further noted that his Government is out to employ all legitimate means to improve the lives of the people of Kogi State.
The flagship project, undertaken by the Kogi State Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (Kogi-RAAMP) and the State Ministry of Rural and Energy Development, demonstrates Governor Ododo’s unwavering commitment to rural-focused governance.
The Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road project is expected to bring numerous benefits to the state, including increased accessibility and easier movement of people, goods, and services between rural communities and urban centers.
It will also boost Economic Opportunities, improve market access for rural producers, and stimulate economic growth and development in the axis.
Governor Ododo’s administration has consistently prioritized rural development, recognizing its pivotal role in shaping the state’s economic future.
This project is proof of his dedication to providing infrastructure that benefits all citizens, regardless of geographical location.
The state, in collaboration with the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), a World Bank supportive program, is expected to yield sustainable results that will alleviate the people of Kogi State on many fronts.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Hon. Engr Mohammed Abdulmutalib, while speaking, appreciated Gov. Ahmed Usman Ododo for his commitment to the welfare of the people of the State.
According to him, the project would open up access to market, healthcare, and education for thousands of residents, which would enable them to engage more fully in the State’s economic activities. Adding that the state is set to Flag Off five more rural roads collectively spanning 65.25 Km across the state.
With Governor Ododo at the helm, Kogi State is poised for transformative growth, and this project is just the beginning of more unprecedented achievement.

KSU Teaching Hospital: Ohere Commends Gov Bello Prompt Release Of Fund As He Inspects Projects

Engr Ohere made the commendation while leading an inspection team to the eastern senatorial district Thursday.
He said that the gesture was borne out of the Governor’s determination to ensure qualitative medical learning facilities and environment. He expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of work done so far.
Projects inspected include the completed work on the 31km Ibana-okpo ikeje Ogugu ete road constructed by Governor Yahaya Bello led Administration and that of 55.4km idah Ugwolawo, Ejule/Anyigba and Ankpa to Abejukolo as asphalt overlay commenced by *TEC Engineering Co Ltd are nearing completion stage.
At Ankpa, Engr. Ohere,expressed appreciation to the people of Ankpa for their hospitality and the cooperation with the contractor and the resident engineers, that led to the early completion of the township road projects assuring them of the Governor’s commitment to the completion of the little finishing works and prepare them for commissioning soon.
While at Ogugu, the commissioner also commended the giant stride of Governor Bello for the unprecedented approach deployed in tackling the menace of gully erosion across the state citing the 18 km Adum to Ogugu roads, okegbi, alasha communities all in Olamaboro Local Government Area of the state.
“The reclamation works over the devastated area are fully achieved with ongoing mitigation measures to stabilize the area for effective control . All the 18 kilometer roads inspected aside reclaimed gully are fitted with adequate drainage stone pitching and bioremediation works”, Engr. Ohere added.
He further said that, “Meanwhile, Anyigba Ejule-Idah final portions are undergoing surface dressing before final asphalt overlay.”
Addressing the contractor, the commissioner advised the company to consider essential drain works as they progress in to the town to give way for a stable finishing.
All these he said, are measures by the Governor Yahaya Bello administration towards positioning Kogi state as a megacity.
Observers are of the belief that given the pace of rapid development Kogi state is witnessing, Governor Bello may likely push Kogi to attain Megacity status even before the 2024 with this level of Infrastructural development.
