The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai has tasked both international and local security experts researchers to deepen their studies to unravels hidden facts that would aid the army and other security agencies to Win the fight against insurgency in the North East. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); adsbygoogle || []).push({});

The Army chief said this on Tuesday while receiving delegation from the institute of security studies (ISS), regional office for west Africa, the sahel and Lake Chad Basin at the Army Headquarters, Abuja.

General Buratai, who was represented by the Chief of Policy and Plans NA HQ, Lt. Gen Adeosun Lamido explained that ISS has the capability and capacity to go into research and get some facts as regards the causes of insecurity and how to solve them.

He said “I want us to be on the same page where we can, while we are doing the military aspect, the research aspect too is also very very useful both for the promotion of the military side and the civil side which is the main side of the whole coin of this security of terrorism.

“Your research can be very very useful to assist us also in unraveling some of the naughty issues as regards fighting insecurity either insurgency or terrorism.

The COAS while commending the institutions initiative, urged them to ensure synergy with other critical stakeholders that are concerned with the issues of security as Army are not the only stakeholders in the fight.

“Yes, the kinetic aspect which has to do with the military, we can categorise it as only 20 percent, while 80 percent is the other issues that borders on other groups.

“It’s the conglomerate of stakeholders including the religious group, the locals, government, Non Governmental Organisations, all involved in either resolving ,expanding and prolonging the conflict, depending on which side of the coin one finds himself”.

Earlier on his part, the Deputy Director, institute for security studies (ISS), Dr. Fonteh Akum, who reiterated that the purpose of their visit is in two folds, said the visit was to introduce their organisation and also solicit the attention of the NA as well as understand exactly the kind of research that would be useful as regards the fighting of insecurity in the North East.

He also stated their area of interest and concentration.

” Our areas of research is very diverse and as such we research mainly in human security which is slightly different from national security because it focuses on human and basically looking at issues of development”.

Dr Akum further said that “ we think it is very important to work with and also meet principal stakeholders and let them know exactly what is it that we are doing.

According to him, the sole aim of their visit is their desire to working with the stakeholders rather than working against them.

The Kaduna State Police Command on thursday, January 18, 2024 successfully apprehend Chinaza Phillip a notorious kidnapper operating in the Abuja area. Chinaza Phillip is alleged to have been involved in various high-profile kidnapping cases in the capital city, instilling fear among residents.

In a statement on Friday, the FCT Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, said the name of the suspected kidnapper is Chinaza Phillip.

She said Philip was arrested on Thursday, January 18, 2024, for his involvement in the recent kidnappings and killings in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The suspect was promptly handed over to the FCT Police Command on Friday, January 19, 2024, and is currently in police custody.

The FCT Police Command expresses its commitment to thorough investigations to ensure that justice is served.

Details surrounding the arrest and subsequent charges will be communicated to the public in due course, as the police work diligently to provide a comprehensive account of the arrest and the charges leveled against Chinaza Phillip.

According to it spokesman, Mr Femi Babafemi disclosing in a statement on Sunday 30th July, 2023 in Abuja, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), had said that it has thwarted attempt by the drug suspect, Igboma Ifeanyi to export quantities of Loud, a variant of Cannabis, Tramadol and Rohypnol.

Babafemi said that the illicit drugs weighing 7.8kg were concealed in 66 bottles of skin lightening lotion.

He further said that the suspect was arrested by the operatives while preparing to board an Ethiopian airline flight to Muscat, Oman at the Lagos airport.

Also, another suspect, Ekpenisi Wisdom was equally arrested while trying to board an Ethiopian Airline flight to Oman with 6.00kg skunk hidden in a bag of food stuff.

“A follow up operation led to the arrest of a staff of Toprano Hotel, Ikeja, Ibigbami Temitope Oluwatobi, who was fingered in the drug trafficking scheme.

“A consignment of 5.70kg codeine syrup going to the United Kingdom was also on Thursday July 27 seized from a 51-year-old widow, Adewunmi Atinuke by NDLEA operatives at the SAHCO export shed of the MMIA Ikeja, ” he said.

In the same vein, NDLEA operatives attached to the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company PLC (NACHO) export shed of the MMIA intercepted a cargo going to Nairobi, Kenya.

Babafemi said that a search of the consignment revealed that various quantities of MDMA (Ecstasy) popularly known as ‘Molly’ and Rohypnol were concealed in a bag consisting of foodstuff.

He said that the NDLEA operatives arrested an agent, Onydem Chinwe who presented it for export.

Equally, a consignment of 8.5kg skunk well concealed in a vehicle engine block going to Dubai, UAE was intercepted by the NDLEA operatives.

Babafemi said that the consignment was intercepted on Tuesday July 18 by the officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation, (DOGI) , attached to courier companies in Lagos.

He quoted the NDLEA Chairman, retired Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa as commending the officers and men of the MMIA command as well as those of DOGI for their resilience and commitment.

According to him, Marwa charged them and their counterparts in other Commands to remain undaunted by the various machinations of drug cartels and barons.

Scavenger Docked For Allegedly Stealing 12 Plastic Chairs

A 28-year-old scavenger (popularly known as Baba n Bola), Adamu Suleiman, on Wednesday 19th July 2023 appeared before a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 12 plastic chairs worth N180,000 . push({});
 
Suleiman, whose residential address was not provided, is charged with theft.
 
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo,  told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 13, at about 4.20 a.m. along Kano Road Kaduna.
 
Leo said that the defendant was caught by a vigilante group while stealing the chairs from a shop belonging to the complainant, Bello Maigari.
 
He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
 
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
 
Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel,  admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
 
Emmanuel said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed with evidence of tax payment to Kaduna Government.
 
He adjourned the case until Aug. 17 for hearing.
