Korean National Day & Cultural Festival celebrated in FCT amidst Pomp and Pageantry
The 2019 Korean National day and Cultural Festival was held on Tuesday November 12, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in a colourful celebration that had members of the diplomatic community, heads of organisations and top Nigerian government functionaries in attendance, including the Senate President, Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan. adsbygoogle || []).push({}); adsbygoogle || []).push({});
Over 700 guests gathered at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton for the carnival-like celebration, as both Korean and Nigerian singers, took their turns to entertain guests at the event.
The event was hosted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nigeria, His Excellency Lee In-tae and his wife.
In his welcome address, Lee In-tae said: “Our history has been full of difficulties. In the last century, we were victims of colonialism, and then we suffered from the Korean War.
“Afterwards, many died from hunger and poverty. Yet, we worked hard and grew strong. We became one of the largest economies in the world, and achieved stable democracy.
And now we are trying to achieve peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula, and for us to succeed, your strong support for our efforts is necessary.
“Despite the hardships of our history, Korea has become close friends with many countries, especially Nigeria.”
Other dignitaries present at the cultural fiesta included Mrs. Pauline Tallen, the Honourable Minister for Woman Affairs, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, the Minister of State, Mines and Steel Development.
The star of this year’s edition of the event was the legendary Yaemer – an acappella ensemble composed of vocalists and singers from the Seoul Institute of the Arts.
They thrilled the audience with a combined wide variety of genres with an acappella style and created a unique mix of scintillating songs.
The Yaemar group performed Lion King medley, Man in the mirror (by Michael Jackson), Believer (by Imagine dragons), One Candle (by G.O.D), Boy in Luv (by BTS) sandwiched by Bigvic’s Highlife performances.
Afterwards, the Yaemer group and Bigvic jointly performed a popular Nigerian song, One Love (by Onyeka Onwenu) to the cheer of the audience.
After the performances, guests were treated to a buffet of Korean cuisine, as Korean technology by LG and Samsung Electronics were also on display.

Music Legend, Tijay Bala Releases Album to Mark Birthday
Igala Sensational Musician, Tijay Bala has released an Album to celebrate his birthday.

Nollywood Produces 541 Movies in 2022 First Quarter – NFVCB
Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, Executive Director/CEO, National Film and Video Censors Board(NFVCB), says the board received and censored a total number of 541 movies produced by the Nigerian film industry in the first quarter of the year 2022. adsbygoogle || []). push({});
He made this known in a statement in Abuja on Friday.
According to him, the figure was made available by the Department of Film Censorship and Classification of the board in its First Quarter Report for the year, which captured all films submitted to the board from across the country.
The report is for onward submission to the relevant Federal Government authority for the compilation of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the first quarter (GDP) Q1, 2022.
The first quarter report indicates a sharp increase in the number of movies produced from 382 in the last quarter of 2021 to 541, representing 42 percent increase.
“We are happy that the industry is beginning the year on a good note as indicated in the increase in the numbers of films that the board received for censorship and approval in the first quarter.
“There is no doubt that our film industry is a key contributor to national economy as the films being produced is a clearly reflection of the direct and indirect jobs the sector is creating.
“NFVCB as Federal Government agency is committed to providing enabling environment for filmmakers, we therefore urge them cooperate with us my ensuring that they submit their films for classification”, he said
According to the statement, Lagos State has the highest number of movies produced for the period with 179, while Abuja followed with 164 movies and Onitsha is behind with 121 movies.
The analysis by censorship location further shows that Kano has 42, while Port Harcourt is 26, as Jos and Benin recorded six and three movies respectively for the period under review.
NFVCB is a Federal Government body that regulates the films and video industry in Nigeria. The Board is empowered by law to classify all films and videos whether imported or produced locally.
It is also the duty of the Board to register all films and videos outlet across the country and to keep a register of such registered outlets among other functions.

This argument ensued between the housemates on wed Big Brother Naija, BBNaija housemate, on Wednesday morning after a prior argument between the both housemates in the bathroom which escalated into them throwing insults at each other.
